Damascus, (SANA) – Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem met on Saturday the accredited ambassadors in Damascus, discussing with them the events that occurred on Friday in Daraa.

Al-Moallem affirmed the legitimacy of popular demands and that Syria is working to meet them according to a reform program that encompasses economic, political and judicial reform and combating corruption, something which Syria has announced previously.

Minister al-Moallem stressed that Syria respects the right of peaceful demonstration completely, but that in recent events, saboteurs managed to infiltrate the demonstrators and opened fire on demonstrators and security forces alike in order to instigate violence and cause chaos, which led to regrettable losses in lives and property.

He pointed out that such incidents cause great damage to the country's economy and the safety and security of citizens, in addition to being an attempt to blemish Syria's international reputation, which is the goal of the saboteurs.

Al-Moallem concluded by saying that this issue can no longer be tolerated, and that it requires taking the necessary procedures to guarantee the security, stability and safety of the country and its people.
